Our Story

Being A Divorce Attorney Sucks!

Helping people navigate a divorce — one of the most stressful, costly, and emotional low points for many — is a noble thing for an attorney who really cares about his clients.

In reality, many people utilize divorce attorneys as weapons to hurt their spouse. To best serve their client, divorce attorneys (sometimes) take combative, cantankerous approaches in a divorce court battle…

And in the end, the family suffers.

There's Got To Be A More Efficient Way

What if couples could get divorced with a fraction of the time, cost, and aggravation?

Beginning in 2017, we started offering divorce mediation as an outlet for couples who wanted to get divorced but didn’t want to spend tens-of-thousands in legal fees.

Our attorney mediators are experienced divorce and family law attorneys, and work with couples who share our vision and can “agree to disagree.”

A Three-Step Process To Divorce

After spending years in court litigating divorce cases, we’ve distilled the court process into three steps:

  1. Get To Know You.  During the initial stage,  our team will speak with each party to learn about your case, your family, marital finances, and what goals you have in the divorce process.  We facilitate a financial and document disclosure process that mimics the court “discovery” process.

  2. Mediation and Negotiation.   After setting the stage, we dive in to more formal negotiations through our mediation sessions (face-to-face or via Zoom).  These sessions typically take the form of a conversation to work out details and discuss various issues in a respectful and productive discussion.  The parties and mediator will sometimes continue the negotiations “off-line” via emails and phone calls.
  3. Make It Legal.  After arriving at a tentative agreement, we’ll prepare the formal legal documents for you (and your lawyer, if you have one) to review.  Most clients prefer to return to our office one last time to sign all the documents and go over ‘next steps.’

What our clients are saying...

Thank you for helping us prepare for our divorce. You made it a smooth and easy process. We couldn’t thank you enough for being so helpful and answering our questions. We had our court date yesterday and like you said it only took about 15 minutes.

Carroll County Client

“My husband and I got married later in life (both second marriages) and it just didn’t work out. We decided to use a mediator and it was a very good process. My first divorce years ago was very expensive and took a long time but I’m glad we found this mediator.”

- S. B.

“I called an attorney and he wanted a $5,000 retainer. I’m so glad I called you.”

- Baltimore County client

“Spending thousands of dollars on lawyers was not what we wanted to do at all…but we also felt like we had to use legal language in case it got messy in the future. Jacob walked us through the process and helped us draft the separation agreement. Was an increasingly easy process.”

- D. G.
